Think before you plug in

Public USB charging stations can be convenient when you’re on the move. However, fraudsters may tamper with charging ports or cables to install malicious software or access information stored on your device.

A compromised device may expose personal information, saved passwords or banking credentials, increasing the risk of unauthorised access to your accounts.

When charging your device away from home:

  • Use your own charger and plug it into a power outlet whenever possible.
  • Avoid connecting your device directly to public USB charging ports.
  • Carry a portable power bank for charging while you’re on the move.
  • Keep your device’s operating system and security software up to date.
  • Lock your device with a strong passcode and enable biometric authentication where available.

Making safer charging choices can help protect your personal information and reduce the risk of unauthorised access to your device.
