Fraudsters may advertise fake job opportunities through social media, messaging apps or online platforms, promising flexible working hours, quick earnings or attractive salaries.

These offers may appear genuine, but they can be designed to collect your personal or banking information, request payments or use your bank account to transfer funds.

You may be asked to pay a registration or processing fee, provide sensitive information, open or use a bank account, or receive and transfer money on someone else’s behalf.

How to protect yourself:

  • Verify the employer and job opportunity through official channels before responding or sharing any information.
  • Be cautious of job offers that promise quick earnings for simple tasks or immediate employment.
  • Never pay registration, processing or recruitment fees as part of a job offer.
  • Never allow another person or organisation to use your bank account to receive or transfer funds.
  • Never share your Online Banking credentials, card details or One-Time Passwords (OTPs).
  • Do not transfer money or provide banking information based on instructions from an unverified recruiter.

Always pause and verify before accepting an unexpected job opportunity. A genuine-looking advertisement, company name or message does not necessarily mean the offer is legitimate.
