DUBAI, 16 December, 2013 - His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, has honoured Chairmen, Vice-Chairmen and Members of the Board of Directors and CEOs of Emirates NBD since its establishment. The bank was formed during the lifetime of the late Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum in 1962. The first Chairman was the late Sultan bin Ali Al Owais.

The honouring ceremony, held at Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC), was attended by Dubai Crown Prince, HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.

Sheikh Mohammed watched a documentary about the history of the bank since its establishment and its development in Dubai before the inception of the UAE, and the bank’s contribution to the economic and banking development of the country in general.

The documentary showed that Sheikh Mohammed ordered the merging of National Bank of Dubai with Emirates Bank in 2007 to become one financial entity to be headed by Chairman of Dubai Civil Aviation and Chief Executive of Emirates Group, H.H. Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum.
 

The report in the documentary also pointed out that Emirates NBD has more than 200 branches locally and globally and serves around a million clients, being viewed as one of the most important contributors to the prosperity of the national economy.

At Sheikh Saeed's Hall, where the honouring ceremony took place, Sheikh Mohammed honoured Chairmen, Vice Chairmen, Directors and CEO’s of the bank.
At the end of the ceremony, Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum presented Sheikh Mohammed with a souvenir gift before Sheikh Mohammed posed for photographs with the honoured staff.

HH Sheikh Mohammed thanked the awardees for their great achievements in rendering high quality banking services and their contributions to pushing the wheel of national economy progress, in addition to financing a number of developmental projects and investment activities in the UAE and beyond.

In this context, Sheikh Mohammed said, "We reward whoever is devoted to his work and preserves the reputation of our dear country as well as contributes to the development and safeguarding of our national economy. We also reward whoever shows innovation in his work to serve the country and its citizens, cohering to virtues and transparency and giving his country the utmost of his potential and innovative ideas that support our vision for the future of the country and the upcoming generations."

HH Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of Emirates NBD said: "On this special and distinguished occasion where we are celebrating the 50th anniversary of the establishment of Emirates NBD as the first national Bank in the UAE, we are honoured by the auspicious presence of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai at this ceremony which is being held to honour the Bank’s Chairmen, Vice Chairmen, Members of The Boards of  Directors and CEOs as a tribute to their  sincere efforts and the vital role they played over 50 years and their contribution to the development, growth and success of the Bank from its inception and until now."

HH Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed added: "This growth and success would not have been possible without the vision of His Highness and the wise UAE leadership over the years. We are also pleased that this celebration coincides with the success of the UAE in winning the bid to host World Expo 2020 in Dubai, where Emirates NBD was one of the Premier Partners supporting the bid." Also present at the ceremony were the Minister of State for Financial Affairs, Obaid Humaid Al Tayer, Governor of the U.A.E. Central Bank, Sultan bin Nasser Al Suweidi, Director-General of Dubai Ruler’s Court, Mohammed Ibrahim Al Shaibani, Director-General of Dubai Protocol and Hospitality, Khalifa Saeed Suleiman, other dignitaries, economists, bankers, senior officials and relatives of the honourees.
