You can use any of your Emirates NBD credit or debit cards abroad to make purchases and to withdraw local currency from cash machines. This is often a safer option than carrying large amounts of cash or traveller's cheques.

It's important to keep your mobile number active when you travel

It’s not mandatory to inform the bank if you’re travelling out of the UAE and intend to use your card, but it’s important to keep your registered mobile number active when you travel so you continue to receive SMS alerts for all transactions on your card and can alert us in case of fraud. Keeping your number active also allows us to confirm genuine transactions you make abroad and lets us contact you immediately if we detect any unusual activity on your card.

Things to know before you travel

Emergency cash and card replacement: You can get an emergency cash advance anywhere in the world. You can also request an emergency card replacement. Just call Visa or Mastercard depending on which card you hold.

For Visa cards

Call 8000 021, wait for the prompt, and then enter 866 654 0112 (UAE) or +1 303 967 1096 (international).

For Mastercard cards

Call +1 800 627 8372 or collect at +1 636 722 7111.

Check your balance before you travel: Before heading off, remember to check your account or card balance so you don’t run out in the middle of your trip.

Always pay in the local currency: When you use your card abroad, you’ll be asked if you want to pay with the card currency or the local country currency, always select to pay in the local currency to avoid extra charges and unfavourable exchange rates.
