Salman Bajwa, Head of Asset Management

Salman Bajwa joined Emirates NBD Asset Management in 2008 and was responsible for heading its sales & distribution function before taking over as the head of the business in 2017. In his sales role he was instrumental in advancing the reach of the business, helping it to become the leading fund manager of choice for wholesale and institutional clients within the GCC region and outside. He set up the institutional sales team at Emirates NBD Asset Management in 2013 and in the succeeding four years this team has been the engine of growth for the business leading to a three-fold increase in the assets under management.

Salman brings to the role a wealth of relevant experience gained working for UBS in their New York and London offices, between 2002 and 2008, as part of the Investment Bank. He has also worked for 5 years in the financial services division of the audit practice of PricewaterhouseCoopers in London and the Channel Islands clearing all stages of the chartered accountancy (“ACA”) exams.

Mr. Bajwa holds a degree in Economics from the University of Warwick.

 

Philip Perchard, Head of Compliance

Phil has over 28 year’s experience in the international finance industry, including the last 15 years in compliance across all areas of wealth management in the Dubai International Financial Centre. Prior to joining Emirates NBD Asset Management, Phil held roles in Barclay’s in Singapore and Standard Bank, Dixia and Jersey Financial Services Commission.

He is responsible for the compliance and regulatory obligations of the firm across various jurisdictions. Phil holds a ICA Graduate Diploma in Compliance, STEP Diploma in Trust & Estates and the CISI compliance diploma.

 

Steve Corrin, Head of Wholesale Retail Channels

Steve comes with 23 years experience in the investment distribution business in the UK, Middle East and Far East. He has spent the last 15 years in Dubai and looks after the sales of Emirates NBD Asset Management fund products to 3rd party distributors such as wealth managers, private banks and IFAs.

Prior to joining Emirates NBD Asset Management, Steve was most recently Sales Director for Amiri Capital, a Shari'a compliant investment manager. Prior to that Steve was General Manager (Middle East Ops) for Anglo Irish Bank (IOM) PLC with responsibility for an investment sales team and a range of corporate clients, and was also instrumental in the early establishment of the bancassurance industry in UAE during his time with Scottish Provident International.

He is a Member of the Life Insurance Association and the Chartered Institute of Securities and Investments.

Lovesh Gheraiya, Head of Business Support

Lovesh heads the business support function at Emirates NBD Asset Management and has over 10 years of experience in Asset and Investment Management, Banking, Finance and Operations. He holds the status of an "Authorised Individual" within DIFC.

Prior to joining Emirates NBD Asset Management he was with Emirates Financial Services wherein he gained experience within Finance and operations in the fields Asset Management, Investment Banking and Fund Accounting.

Lovesh holds a Masters degree in Business Administration specializing in Finance and Marketing and a BBA in Finance.

 

Yong Wei Lee, Head of MENA Equities

Yong Wei Lee is the Head of MENA Equities at Emirates NBD Asset Management and is responsible for the management of the MENA equity funds and portfolios, together with overseeing the research activities of the investment team. He places strong emphasis on value investing, using a bottom up fundamental approach, together with a top down overlay, where he has extensive past experience over the past 16 years. The funds under his management cover both the conventional and Shari'a compliant space, and under his guidance the flagship fund has been awarded with a 4 star rating from Morningstar.

Prior to joining Emirates NBD Asset Management in 2007, Lee was a Senior Manager with Lion Capital Asset Management, one of the largest private asset management company in South-East Asia, based in Singapore, covering Asian construction, airlines and healthcare companies. Prior to this he was an analyst/co-portfolio manager with Straits Lion Asset Management, with responsibilities covering Hong Kong and Europe, and Asian banks and transportation sectors.

Lee is a Singaporean National and holds a Bachelors of Engineering (Honours) in Mechanical and Production Engineering, from Nanyang Technological University, and he has been a CFA charter holder since 2003. He was a regular contributor on the Business Breakfast on Dubai Eye FM103.8 concerning the regional stock markets and has been quoted on Bloomberg and in UAE newspaper.

 

Usman Ahmad, Managing Director, Investments

Usman Ahmed is the Head of Fixed Income at Emirates NBD Asset Management. He is responsible for the management of the USD 1.6 billion fixed income funds and portfolios, together with overseeing the research activities of the investment team. His expertise is derived from a combination of a strong credit analysis background together with over fourteen years of fixed income asset management experience. The funds under his management cover both the conventional and Shari'a compliant space and under his guidance the flagship funds have been awarded S&P Silver grading.

Prior to joining Emirates NBD Asset Management in May 2010, Ahmed was a Director at Mashreq Capital in the UAE, where his team managed fixed income portfolios. In that role he was responsible for the bank's liquidity book and Fixed Income Proprietary trading book, which included long/short credit book. He also co-managed three public funds, which delivered strong returns under his management.

Prior to joining Mashreq Capital, Ahmed spent seven years at TCH Asset Management (USA). He started his career as a Credit Analyst, and has since served in the capacity of both Portfolio Manager and Director of Research

Ahmed received his MBA from the University of Miami in 1999 and is a CFA Charter holder.

 

Anthony Taylor, Head of Real Estate

Anthony has worked in Real Estate for ten years and has been Fund Manager, Real Estate at Emirates NBD Asset Management since 2013. He has had a key part in building the REIT’s institutional portfolio. Before joining the team he was Asset Manager at Public Investment Corporation Real Estate Asset Managers (South Africa), Business Analyst at CBS Property Management (South Africa) and Professional Associated Valuer at Old Mutual Properties (South Africa). While at the Public Investment Corporation Anthony led the redevelopment of the Malvern Shopping Centre precinct in Durban, KwaZulu Natal, from concept to completion of phase 1. He is a Member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (MRICS), a Professional Associated Valuer registered with the South African Council for the Property Valuers Profession and holds Bachelor of Science Honours in Property Studies from the University of Cape Town, South Africa.

 

Ajit Menon, Head of Operations

Ajit heads the operations team at Emirates NBD Asset Management. He manages the asset management operations function containing a number of diverse activities and is accountable for its effective, efficient and compliant functioning. He has over 19 years’ experience of which 13 years have been in the field of treasury, investment and asset management operations. He is also responsible for providing ongoing support to establish operational infrastructure for existing and new products or services. He partners with key stake holders within the asset management business units such as sales, fund managers and compliance, to build adequate capabilities and provide enhanced operational services for clients.

Prior to joining Emirates NBD Asset Management he served Mashreq Bank wherein he gained experience within operations in the field of remittances, treasury, investment banking and asset management.

He holds a Master’s degree in both Commerce and Business Administration and is an Chartered member of the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment, UK (CISI). In addition he is also a Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist from the Association of Anti-Money Laundering Specialists (ACAMS).

Dr Al Al-Qurra Daghi, Director
