Non-security compliant cheques

In accordance with UAE Central Bank's instruction, effective March 1st, 2012 Emirates NBD will not be accepting non-security compliant cheques for clearing. Kindly do not deposit such cheques in the drop boxes and Cheque Deposit Machines from February 29th, 2012.

However, rest assured we will process and clear all your non-security compliant cheques that were submitted before February 29th, 2012. For example: your rent cheques, security cheques against advances, post-dated cheques for loan repayment and others.

Please note that currently all cheques issued by Emirates NBD are security compliant.

How to recognize security compliant cheques

Some of the features are visible to the naked eye whereas some of them can be viewed under UV light and magnifying glass.

The simplest form of verifying if a cheque is compliant is to gently rub on the "CHEQUE" printed in thermo chromic ink. The word will fade off due to the heat and will reappear once it has cooled down.

Another visible feature is the warning band listing one or more security features incorporated in the cheque. The warning band is printed on the reverse or on the face of the cheque. The security features listed on the warning band by each bank may differ.
